At the time there were accusations that other strikebreakers were killed and their bodies dumped in ponds. Apparently, there was some effort to search for those bodies but none were found or at least none were reported to be found. The evidence for these claims of additional victims does not, in the author’s judgment, support the claims. Whatever efforts were put into a search for additional victims quickly dissipated. The truth is, that like other aspects of the Herrin Massacre, no one knows for certain nor can anyone ever know. Beliefs and rumors, however heartfelt and however expressed, are not evidence. Associated Press report June 29, 1922.
